As the male, I would like to add a little different perspective from the other half of this traveling team.
When visiting the United Kingdom, there is more historical marvels to see and visit than one can completely comprehend, but there is another side that I personally enjoyed. First was the opportunity that after walking a gazilliion miles each day, we have visited a local pub and enjoyed the best of England--the local beer. In Scotland, it has been the chance to savor the completely different and divergent tastes of single malt liqueur.
Another very special treat for me was the chance to visit the "The Home of Golf--Saint Andrews, Scotland."
I enjoy golf as much as the game allows. I am not a great golfer, but to stand there at the 1st tee and see just to my left the 18th green and behind me the grand Royal and Ancient Golf Club, that was a dream for anyone who has ever played the game.
The ocean is just off to the right and certainly affects the play. As I watched a couple of foursomes tee off, all I could think about was being in their place.
By the way, of the eight players that I watched, no one hit the ball more than 200 yards and only one shot was straight. I guess he was a regular and not emotionally hyped, like the rest of the players. At least I felt that I would not have been out of place.
After walking around, I was able to buy a shirt with the St. Andrews' logo, a bag tab and a commemorative golf ball. Nobody will accuse me of not helping the local economy. Katherine can probably describe all the neat thing about the city and its historical character, but St. Andrews is about only one thing in my mind--GOLF!
This little bit at the end is the female perspective. See the above benches--"MEMBERS ONLY" so don't even think about sitting there-even for a picture!
But my favorite was the golf course we drove past on the way out of St. Andrews--The Castle Course. It was beautiful!!
Here is the course and is probably how the game was originally played in the Scottish sheep pastures------
We are on our way to Edinburgh.
